Psalms Project takes flight

At 8 p.m. on Friday, November 20, 2009, the Wheaton College Concert Choir will present the premiere performance of Preserve Me, O God, a new choral work by American composer Daniel Kellogg, written under commission from SDG. Kellogg's piece is the first in a series of choral works based on Psalm texts to be commissioned by SDG. Psalm 16 was chosen as the inspiration for Preserve Me, O God at the suggestion of Dr. Howard Matson, in whose honor the piece was commissioned. A retired pastor and man of enduring faith, Dr. Matson clung to the words of Psalm 16 in an intense way over a period of several years as he battled a life-threatening lung disease.

The November 20 choral concert will take place in Edman Chapel on the campus of Wheaton College. The program will also feature works by Bach, Brahms, Koday, Randall Thompson, Eric Whitacre, Orlando di Lasso and Carol Barnett.
