----------
Boombox
Saturday 6 June 7.30PM
Deakin Edge Theatre, Federation Square, Melbourne
The Australian Voices
A world premiere.
NO ROBES. NO RULES. NO WORRIES.
An old-school boombox sits on stage; a choir enters, presses play, and a travesty of choral music ensues. The ensemble plays with toy instruments, stand-up comedy, rap-battles, sporting commentary, mime, beatboxing, recordings from our unruly parliament and – frankly – whatever else we can get away with. Each piece melts into the next, without clear distinctions between composers, works or genres. There is no plot, no repetition, no rules, no robes.
Features music by Amanda Cole, Robert Davidson, Gordon Hamilton, Isabella Gerometta and Nigel Butterley.
Cue the mixtape.
Tickets: $30 full, $20 Concession, U16, $80 Family of 4
