Network with Singers Around the Globe!

It's August 2011, which means, it’s around one year left to the 2012 World Choir Games in Cincinnati and to the 1st Xinghai Prize International Choir Championships in Guangzhou, China. So it’s high time to start thinking about fundraising and choir sponsoring, isn’t it?

Some choirs set and are still setting good examples, which we are going to introduce to you now. Read more, get inspired by their activities and create your own ideas!

Voices of Unity Choir Olympic Team (USA)
2010 World Choir Games in Shaoxing

They’ve built the Voices of Unity Choir Olympic Team to get funds for participation in the World Choir Games. They attracted the attention of sponsors through the newly launched website http://www.dreamsofgold.org, gathered enough funds, Voices of Unity travelled to China and was rewarded. The dreams of gold have come true. And we will meet them again: 2012 in Cincinnati.

Boğaziçi Jazz Choir (Turkey)

World Choir Championships in Graz 2011

The World Choir Championships for Youth and Young Adults in Graz 2011. This was the dream of Boğaziçi Jazz Choir from Istanbul. They found a unique way to seek sponsors. They simply sang “Joshua fought the battle of Jericho” in the metro during the rush hour and uploaded a video to youtube. The result: World Champion in the “Musica Contemporanea” and “Folklore” categories.

Rejoice Gospel Choir (Germany)

2012 World Choir Games in Cincinnati

Rejoice from Langenberg was the first German choir registered for the 2012 World Choir Games in Cincinnati. They found a prominent intercessor supporting their plans: The prime minister of the German state of North-Rhine Westfalia, Hannelore Kreaft. It’s an outstanding reference regarding future sponsors!

Greeting Hannelore Kraft (German)

The Young People's Chorus of Erie (USA)
2012 World Choir Games in Cincinnati

The idea: Help send dedicated young singers to compete at the World Choir Games. The plan: getting most of the votes at the online voting of the Pepsi Refresh Project and getting the money needed from Pepsi. People who still want to support the idea of Young People's Chorus of Erie: vote for them here.

And what about you? Which of our choir events do you want to participate in? What is your fundraising idea? Write us and we will give an account of it!

The Threshold Bookcast : Chapter 13 : Keys To Ascension

Chapter 13 : Keys To AscensionRahu Lüli, the teenage monk from Kõrgus, is once again the central character of the weekly instalment of the Threshold Bookcast. This time, we find the novice reminiscing as he explores unknown territory uphill, following a hunch that has occurred to him prior to the morning ritual. « « Gazing up, the apprentice had detected an odd detail. Something was decidedly wrong about the view, and it couldn't but have a meaning. Over the years, the pitch black walls of…See More

Rossini: Feminist Crusader

Taconic Opera will be presenting a fully orchestrated mass in June by the famed composer, Gioacchino Rossini, widely known for his comedic operas like The Barber of Seville and, of course, the universally recognizable overture from his opera William Tell.  However, this is not just any Mass: it has a very remarkable historical component that would be of interest to both music historians and women everywhere.  The Petite Messe Solennelle (small solemn mass) was originally written to feature…See More

Maryland Choral Society: Dona Nobis Pacem at Mount Calvary Catholic Church

May 20, 2012 from 4pm to 7pm
Ralph Vaughan Williams's Dona Nobis Pacem, written in the years just prior to the outbreak of World War II, blends the poetry of Walt Whitman with the cry for peace ("Dona nobis pacem") embodied within the Agnus Dei of the traditional Latin mass. It is a piece of tremendous drama, emotional scope, and eloquence, and it has much wisdom to offer to us and the world in which we live. The Maryland Choral Society will perform the piece in the rarely-heard version for strings and piano, a reduced…See More
