The largest choir competition in the world begins on July 9 with choirs parading through the streets of Graz, Austria. This grand event continues to unfold over the next 10 days ending with a grand ceremony on July 19 which will resemble the grand closing ceremony for the Olympics in China!
In total, there will be 441 choirs from 93 countries participating in this competition! That's over 20,000 singers! The Olympics will have 11,000 participants, so this event, in fact, is much larger when in comes to participants!
There will be a category for almost every type of music that choirs can sing and classifications for every type of choir including children's choirs, youth choirs, church choirs, community choirs, men's ensembles, women's ensembles, jazz choirs and many more!
Over the next 10 days, I will be posting comments about the competition including photos. Please check back to see what's going on in this wonderful world-wide celebration of the common language we share - music!
The first thing to happen on Wednesday, July 9 will be the parade of choirs through the streets of Graz. Come back Wednesday night to see photos of this wonderful time of sharing!
