Why? Simple question, complex answers, but let me first address the reason as to WHY am I going to attempt to do the impossible: blog my way to an undergraduate degree in music education. I guess it has to do with the two things that I love to do, one being the obvious and the other writing; and as a musician I feel obligated to share my passions with others, in hope that they will find it inspiring and if not that, then at least mildly entertaining.

So, let's begin.

This time next week I will have began a great journey into the unknown- college life, at the Schowb School of Music at Columbus State University in Columbus Georgia and I must admit that I am extremely excited to get to the school and begin classes because to be perfectly honest, the last half of the summer as been a total musical bore. And, I personally cant wait to begin on the Brahm's Requiem, which also happens to be my current musical obsession...well that works out quite nicely doesnt it lol...Now, what I am about to say might seem a little "heretical" to some, but this is how I feel about the piece- yes, the fourth movement (aka- How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place) is an amazing work that should be given all it's due credit, however upon the initial listening of the piece I found the second movement (For Mortal Flesh is all the grass) more powerful and in my opinion better *gasp* yes, more enjoyable to listen to than the third. Then again, this could just be me enjoying it more because it has similar sounds of the Mozart's Requiem which captured my heart two years ago and has not let go. Whatever the case, I absolutely love the ominous triplets in the timpani, the grandeur of a 200 member chorus with a sinister sound telling the world that the mortal flesh is as the grass. But then in an instance, as if a plea for hope the song turns to a dance reminding the people that the Lord is coming, but they are only to be put down again by the timpani...Love it! That's not to say that I did NOT enjoy the fourth, I just felt a much stronger connection to the second- im expecting my attitude to change about which I enjoy the most by the time we preform it because as we all know, listening and preforming are two totally different things.

Anyway, I move in next week and am stoked...that's about it.
