Hello Leigh Anne!

My name is Paulo Faustini and I just joined this interesting website. How do you like it?

I am posting information regarding the a cappella program in Umbria, Italy, that I have founded 4 years ago. It is called Umbrian Serenades - Choral and Cultural Tastings in the Green Heart of Italy. We take choral enthusiasts to perform in breath-taking cathedrals in Italy, such as the Duomo in Spoleto (where we are based), the Basilica of St. Francis in Assisi, and this year the main cathedral in Orvieto. The program lasts about 13 days and participants get to live as locals in the medieval town of Spoleto, with day trips to nearby towns. We also include a cultural event every day, be it a wine tasting, cheese, tasting, a cooking class, walking tour with a professional local guide, etc. This summer we will have a fully costumed medieval closing dinner! It is a life transforming experience that we provide as it includes all of our passions: teaching, choral music, singing, art history, travel, wine, food, etc.!

We are in the process of accepting applications and hearing people until we have a vocal chamber group of 24. Non-singing travel companions are welcome to join as well. Here is a link to our website for more information: http://www.umbrianserenades.com/about/index.html

If you or any choristers of yours should have any interest in our unique and off-the-beaten-path choral and cultural experience, please do not hesitate to contact me through this website, or our website, or at mail@umbrianserenades.com, toll free (888) 664-2355.

All the best to you as we enter into the holiday season!

Cordiali Saluti,

Paulo Faustini

The Threshold Bookcast : Chapter 13 : Keys To Ascension

Chapter 13 : Keys To AscensionRahu Lüli, the teenage monk from Kõrgus, is once again the central character of the weekly instalment of the Threshold Bookcast. This time, we find the novice reminiscing as he explores unknown territory uphill, following a hunch that has occurred to him prior to the morning ritual. « « Gazing up, the apprentice had detected an odd detail. Something was decidedly wrong about the view, and it couldn't but have a meaning. Over the years, the pitch black walls of…See More

Rossini: Feminist Crusader

Taconic Opera will be presenting a fully orchestrated mass in June by the famed composer, Gioacchino Rossini, widely known for his comedic operas like The Barber of Seville and, of course, the universally recognizable overture from his opera William Tell.  However, this is not just any Mass: it has a very remarkable historical component that would be of interest to both music historians and women everywhere.  The Petite Messe Solennelle (small solemn mass) was originally written to feature…See More

The Threshold Bookcast : Chapter 11 : The Preacher The Teacher

Chapter 11 : The Preacher The TeacherThis week's instalment of The Threshold Series revolves around Bernard Sturn and features Veshtar, the almost barren land also known as the radioactive planet. As the chapter begins, the illustrious physicist is enjoying a cup of green tea in his office, reviewing the events of the day while he waits for his newly hired assistant, Frank Evans, to join him for an informal evening meeting. « At the beginning of the morning, Daniel Milton had sent him a long…See More

Maryland Choral Society: Dona Nobis Pacem at Mount Calvary Catholic Church

May 20, 2012 from 4pm to 7pm
Ralph Vaughan Williams's Dona Nobis Pacem, written in the years just prior to the outbreak of World War II, blends the poetry of Walt Whitman with the cry for peace ("Dona nobis pacem") embodied within the Agnus Dei of the traditional Latin mass. It is a piece of tremendous drama, emotional scope, and eloquence, and it has much wisdom to offer to us and the world in which we live. The Maryland Choral Society will perform the piece in the rarely-heard version for strings and piano, a reduced…See More
