The American Prize deadline is Mon, Nov 15.

Dear Colleagues,

(SEE UPDATE on SCHORR semi-finalists as update to this post.)

Just a reminder that the postmark deadline for The American Prize Schorr
Memorial Awards in Vocal Performance is Monday, November 15, 2010.

With nearly two weeks to go before the postmark deadline, we have already received applications representing fifteen different
states, from Maine to Texas, and Florida to Wisconsin, with more
arriving everyday. It looks to be a very exciting contest.

The American Prize is a unique nonprofit competition, a career-builder in which all semi-finalists, finalists and winners
derive benefit, regardless of who the final winners may be. Applicants
are judged solely through their recordings. There is no live
competition and few age restrictions.

There are separate divisions for opera/operetta and for art song, and categories for professional, pre-professional, gifted high
school and community vocalists. Among the judges is Jay White, 8-year
veteran of the Grammy Award-winning solo vocal ensemble, CHANTICLEER.

What contestants win:

* All semi-finalists, finalists and winners receive personalized certificates of accomplishment.

* Finalists and winners receive written evaluations from noted professionals, which contestants can then use in any way that may be
helpful to them.

* Winners also receive cash awards of between $100 to $500, depending on the category and the number of applicants. No prize is
less than $100.

* All semi-finalists, finalists and winners are announced nationally and internationally, as well as on our blog. Winners are
featured on our website with bios and photos and links to personal
websites. Winning performances are posted to our YouTube channel.

* The American Prize also forwards your status as a semi-finalist, finalist or winner to media contacts you provide, such as newspapers
and radio stations, alumni newsletters, teaches, coaches, managers and
agents.

Complete information, including rules and application forms, and the
list of past winners of The American Prize, may be found on the
website.

I am happy to answer any questions.

The Threshold Bookcast : Chapter 13 : Keys To Ascension

Chapter 13 : Keys To AscensionRahu Lüli, the teenage monk from Kõrgus, is once again the central character of the weekly instalment of the Threshold Bookcast. This time, we find the novice reminiscing as he explores unknown territory uphill, following a hunch that has occurred to him prior to the morning ritual. « « Gazing up, the apprentice had detected an odd detail. Something was decidedly wrong about the view, and it couldn't but have a meaning. Over the years, the pitch black walls of…See More

Rossini: Feminist Crusader

Taconic Opera will be presenting a fully orchestrated mass in June by the famed composer, Gioacchino Rossini, widely known for his comedic operas like The Barber of Seville and, of course, the universally recognizable overture from his opera William Tell.  However, this is not just any Mass: it has a very remarkable historical component that would be of interest to both music historians and women everywhere.  The Petite Messe Solennelle (small solemn mass) was originally written to feature…See More

Maryland Choral Society: Dona Nobis Pacem at Mount Calvary Catholic Church

May 20, 2012 from 4pm to 7pm
Ralph Vaughan Williams's Dona Nobis Pacem, written in the years just prior to the outbreak of World War II, blends the poetry of Walt Whitman with the cry for peace ("Dona nobis pacem") embodied within the Agnus Dei of the traditional Latin mass. It is a piece of tremendous drama, emotional scope, and eloquence, and it has much wisdom to offer to us and the world in which we live. The Maryland Choral Society will perform the piece in the rarely-heard version for strings and piano, a reduced…See More
