The Pulse of the Times - Affecting Social Change Through Singing Activism
2pm PT/5pm ET on http://www.modavox.com/voiceamerica/vshow.aspx?sid=1626
With my guests, Anne Krill and Diane Wittner we will explore the topic of using singing powerfully in activist movements – past and present. Anne was a part of activist movements in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s where singing was used to unify the spirit of the activists and create strength and solidarity.
Diane’s approach is different in that it seeks to get ideas through into the halls of power by the “Trojan Horse” of using humor in songs. Diane Wittner’s work can be accessed at: http://www.facebook.com/l/fa281;chesapeakecitizens.org/
I will also have a special interview with Tami Simon, the founder and publisher of Sounds True, a 23-year-old multimedia publishing company dedicated to disseminating spiritual wisdom. She is a founding member of the Integral Institute, a member of the Social Venture Network, a Dharma Ocean Foundation board member, and a meditation instructor under the guidance of Dharma Ocean director Reggie Ray, who carries on the lineage of Tibetan Buddhist teacher Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche.
--------------------
Anne Krill’s activism began as a child seeing her mother demonstrate that we are all connected. She was in an anti-war musical, Alice in Blunderland, sailed with Pacific Peacemaker, and was arrested with Martin Sheen at the Nevada Nuclear Test Site. Anne now creates programming for Namaste care facility and is an actor/teacher.
Diane Wittner, an adjunct professor in integrated arts education, worked at PLATFORM in England coordinating the award-winning project Still Waters. From 2005 to 2007, she co-produced the Backbone Campaign's Progressive Cabinet interviews Conversations with the Cabinet. Diane also served on the boards of directors of the Backbone Campaign and the Chesapeake Sustainable Business Alliance. She currently partners with Maryland’s Coalition for Health Security and the Campaign for Fresh Air and Clean Politics.
Tami Simon is founder of Sounds True, a multi-media company long recognized as a pioneer in disseminating spiritual wisdom. www.soundstrue.com
