Event Description

Throughout the centuries, composers have drawn inspiration from the Biblical stories of David and Solomon. This concert explores this rich musical legacy with a variety of psalm settings, Handel’s famous “Zadok the Priest” and excerpts from Saul and Solomon, Part III of Honegger’s dramatic oratorio King David, and “The Last Words of David” by Randall Thompson.

At 3:15 please join Artistic Director Dr. Richard Giarusso for The Half-Note, a 30-minute pre-concert discussion.  This informal discussion will focus on why a composer wrote a particular work, the music's historical context, and what to listen for in the program ahead.  The Half-Note will also feature notable musicologists, MCS musicians, and guest soloists. The Half-Note is offered free to all concertgoers and presented before most Maryland Choral Society concerts and open rehearsals.
