Lea Singers in Concert - Joseph Haydn – The Creation

Victoria Longdon – Conductor
Vanessa Bowers – Soprano
Gwilym Bowen – Tenor
Marcus Farnworth – Bass
Pre-concert talk by Lindsay Kemp and Victoria Longdon in conversation
With its roof-raising choruses and bubbling melodies Haydn’s “The Creation” is one of the most life-affirming and generous two hours of music you can hear. Joseph Haydn once said that when he thought of God he could write only cheerful music. The vivid, pictorial nature of the text, with its rising sun ‘in splendour bright’, its birds with their ‘cooing calls’, and its menageries of tawny lions, fexible tigers, nimble sgas and noble steeds, certainly fired his imagination.
