Collegium Singers, Director Peter Leech with continuo organ Robert Court.
From the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries the Bach family produced musicians of almost every type, from itinerant town fiddlers to prominent city and court organists, Kantors and Kapellmeisters. The New-Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians lists over 50 members of the Bach family who were known to have been musicians, at least 14 of whom have substantial biographical entries. This concert celebrates the work of important members of the Bach family active from around 1630-1750, whose talents contributed works of outstanding beauty, originality and ingenuity to baroque sacred choral repertory in Northern German lands. A highlight will undoubtedly be the immortal Jesu meine Freude by the most famous Bach of them all, Johann Sebastian.
