Event Description

Perhaps the most complex tonal choral masterpiece ever written, this program of powerful anti-war choral music features Francis Poulenc's Figure Humaine, a piece composed for a cappella double chorus while Paris was occupied by Nazi forces during World War II. In explaining his setting to critic Claude Rostand, Poulenc said, "I composed the work for unaccompanied choir… because I wanted this act of faith to be performed without instrumental aid, by the sole means of the human voice." The program also includes works by 2006 Choral Composition Competition First-Prize winner Richard McIntyre, two-time Composition Competition honorable mention Richard Rice, Roger Davidson (World Premiere) and Benjamin Britten (Voices for Today). This concert is co-sponsored by the Society for Universal Sacred Music.

Pre-concert talk with composers at 2 p.m.

The New York Virtuoso Singers are joined by The Canticum Novum Youth Choir, Edie Rosenbaum, Director
And The Elm City Girls' Choir, Rebecca Rosenbaum, Director.

Tickets to concert: $20.00; seniors 65 and over and students: $10
TDF vouchers accepted. Tickets available at the door one hour and 15 minutes before concerts, or call Ticket Central at 212-279-4200
